Home Inspections in Washington, DC

In much of Washington, home means a rowhouse. Capitol Hill, Shaw, Columbia Heights, Petworth and Brookland are lined with them, many now split into two condos or extended with rear additions and basement units. Shared walls and low-slope roofs make rowhouses different to inspect from a detached house in the suburbs.

Homes we inspect in DC

  • Rowhouses from the late 1800s and early 1900s, original or renovated.
  • Rowhouses converted into two-unit condos, where we focus on your unit and the parts of the building you will share.
  • Condos in newer mid-rise and high-rise buildings across the city.

What We Pay Attention To in Washington, DC

Low-slope roofs

Many rowhouses have nearly flat roofs. Where they can be reached safely, we check the roof covering, flashing and drainage, since standing water and worn seams are the usual trouble spots.

Basement units

English basements and lower-level units are prone to moisture. We look at walls, floors, window wells and the exterior drainage that protects them.

Renovation quality

Flipped and converted rowhouses can look finished while hiding shortcuts. We look closely at visible wiring, plumbing, ventilation and the transitions between old and new work.
